Easter song

|I will sing a new song

For when I was desolate

You were there

For when I was dismayed

You were there

For when my expectations were destroyed

You were there

For when I grieved my daughter and my son

You were there

For when I could not trust

You were even there

For when I no longer knew myself, could not work who I was

Even in the dark, even in the pain, even in the disarray

You were there

So I will sing a new song

I will sing a song of love that doesn’t stay in the grave

I will sing a song of love that rolls away stones:

Love that rolls away little stones that harden hearts and huge stones that seal tombs.

I will sing a new song,

A song of love that teaches sorrow to dance in the ancient rhythms of the triune divine.

A song of love

So beautiful you cannot look directly at it

So infinite you cannot measure it

So old and so new it persistently creates from beginning to end

So precious it cost love’s life

So powerful that all the hate, anger, denial, shame, pain, fear and sadness of death could not hold it

Love so alive it lives in me.

I will sing a new song.
